Max Hospital conducts India’s first Hemodiafiltration Certification workshop for Nephrologists – Express Healthcare

Max Hospital, Saket, a Centre of Excellence (COE) for Hemodiafiltration (HDF) in dialysis therapy, has conducted the first HDF certification workshop for nephrologists. The training was organised to enhance clinical expertise and improve patient outcomes by equipping healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills to adopt advanced HDF therapy in India.

The one-day training programme featured a comprehensive curriculum, including clinical concepts, hands-on sessions, and case-based learning tailored for nephrologists. More than 50 healthcare professionals attended the workshop. Participants also visited the advanced dialysis unit at Max Hospital, Saket, where they experienced HDF-enabled dialysis machines, a medical-grade water treatment system, and a central delivery system.

Max Hospital, Saket is among the early adopters of advanced therapies such as HDF in India. The training programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr Dinesh Khullar, Chairman – Nephrology & Renal Transplant Medicine, Max Hospital, Saket. Dr Khullar said, “We are proud to lead this training program for nephrologists and dialysis professionals. This is a program built by clinicians, for clinicians—with the goal of advancing kidney care through shared knowledge, evidence-based practice, and hands-on learning.”

HDF is associated with improved clearance of toxins and better patient outcomes. Recent clinical studies have indicated that patients treated with hemodiafiltration had a 23 per cent better survival rate compared to those on standard high-flux hemodialysis. HDF has also been shown to improve patients’ quality of life compared to standard hemodialysis.

The completion of the first HDF training programme in India marks a milestone in professional development and capacity-building in the region. The participation and feedback from attendees reflected the demand for such initiatives. Additional programmes under the COE are planned to continue fostering learning and collaboration in this field.
