Asian Heart Institute expands into cardiovascular thoracic care with appointment of Dr Bhushan Thombare – Express Healthcare

Asian Heart Institute has expanded its surgical services with the appointment of Dr Bhushan Thombare, marking its entry into full-spectrum cardiovascular thoracic care.

The hospital, led by Dr Ramakanta Panda, stated that the addition of a thoracic surgeon expands its surgical offerings to provide care across the heart, lungs, oesophagus and chest wall.

Commenting on the development, Dr Ramakanta Panda said, “Adding a thoracic surgeon to our cardiovascular surgery hospital completes and elevates our surgical offerings by providing comprehensive care across the heart, lungs, esophagus, and chest wall, making it a cardiovascular thoracic centre.”

According to the hospital, its cardiovascular teams currently manage conditions including coronary artery disease, valve disorders and congenital heart defects through procedures such as bypass surgery, valve repair and replacement, and minimally invasive catheter-based interventions.

With the appointment of Dr Thombare, the hospital stated that it will extend its services to thoracic conditions, including heart and lung tumours and oesophageal procedures.

According to the hospital, patients will have access to minimally invasive thoracic procedures alongside minimally invasive cardiac approaches, with the aim of reducing recovery time and hospital stay.

Speaking on the need for the expanded services, Dr Panda said, “We are addressing a growing need in the city for dedicated thoracic care. We can offer coordinated multidisciplinary care for patients with overlapping conditions, such as combined heart and lung disease.”

The hospital stated that the integration of thoracic surgery will also enable the use of shared intensive care unit resources, anaesthesiology services and cross-trained nursing teams.

According to the hospital, the addition of thoracic surgery transforms Asian Heart Institute into a cardiovascular thoracic care centre, supporting care across heart and chest conditions.
