Aster CMI Hospital launches ARISE for robotic-assisted spine surgery – Express Healthcare

Aster CMI Hospital has launched the Aster Robotic Institute for Spine Excellence (ARISE), a dedicated centre focused on robotic-assisted and minimally invasive spine surgery through clinical care, innovation, research, education and training.

The launch was attended by Dr Uma Nambiar, CEO of the Indian Institute of Science Medical School Foundation and Chairperson of the DHIndia Association. The event also included the felicitation of spine pioneers, a technology showcase and Aster’s vision for the future of neurosciences.

According to the hospital, ARISE has been established to integrate robotic technologies, precision-driven surgical techniques, multidisciplinary expertise, research and education on a single platform to support patients with complex spine disorders. The institute aims to advance robotic spine surgery by combining technology with evidence-based clinical care and training for spine surgeons.

Dr Ravi Gopal Varma, Director – Aster Global Centre of Excellence in Neurosciences and Lead Consultant – Neurosurgery, Aster CMI Hospital, Karnataka, said, “The launch of ARISE marks a defining milestone in our journey to transform spine care in India. Robotic technology is reshaping the future of spine surgery by enabling greater precision, enhanced safety, and improved patient outcomes. Through ARISE, we aim not only to deliver world-class robotic spine care but also to become a centre for innovation, research, and education that will contribute to the advancement of neurosciences globally.”

Dr Akshay Hari, Consultant – Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery, Aster CMI Hospital, added, “Robotic-assisted spine surgery allows surgeons to plan procedures with exceptional accuracy and execute them with greater precision. This translates into minimally invasive procedures, reduced blood loss, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and better long-term outcomes for patients. ARISE provides the ideal platform to further advance these technologies and make them more accessible.”

Commenting on the launch, Dr Prashanth N, CEO – Aster Hospitals, Karnataka, said, “At Aster, we continuously invest in technologies and centers of excellence that redefine patient care. The launch of ARISE reflects our long-term vision of making advanced robotic spine surgery accessible while strengthening Bengaluru’s position as a destination for world-class neurosciences care. We remain committed to delivering innovative, patient-centric healthcare through clinical excellence and technology.”

According to the hospital, the launch of ARISE expands its neurosciences services by bringing together specialists, robotic technology, research and education for patients requiring complex spine procedures.
