Medanta – The Medicity has announced the launch of its Advanced Surgical Heart Failure Clinic, a specialised centre for the diagnosis, surgical management, and rehabilitation of patients with complex and end-stage heart failure. Medanta has been ranked the Best Private Hospital in India by Newsweek for six consecutive years.
The new clinic brings together cardiac surgeons, heart failure specialists, interventional cardiologists, and rehabilitation teams to provide coordinated care. It includes advanced diagnostics and services such as cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), right heart catheterisation, biopsy and genetic testing, and pre- and post-transplant rehabilitation. The clinic offers treatment pathways beyond standard medication, including surgical interventions, mechanical circulatory support devices, and transplant readiness support.
The facility is focused on early detection and timely surgical intervention, including left ventricular assist device (LVAD) therapy, bridge-to-transplant planning, and destination therapy. It also provides patient and family counselling, lifestyle guidance, long-term condition management, and cost planning.
Dr. Anil Bhan, Chairman, Cardiac Surgery, Heart Transplant, Cardiac Care, Medanta, Gurugram, said, “Advanced stage heart failure disease continues to be a health crisis in India, with a one-year mortality rate reaching up to 23.7 per cent for some major causes. Analysis of 10,845 heart failure patients showed that diseases leading to end-stage heart disease, such as ischemic heart disease, contribute to a 21.1 per cent one-year mortality, while dilated cardiomyopathy contributes to a 23.7 per cent one-year mortality, and rheumatic heart disease is the third leading cause. In light of these significant mortality figures and the diverse origins of heart failure, advanced surgical heart failure therapies provide crucial life-saving options for patients with severe cardiac dysfunction, significantly improving survival rates and restoring quality of life through precision-driven care. Our clinic will specifically address these critical needs by focusing on Mechanical Circulatory Support (LVAD, RVAD, BiVAD, ECMO), Heart and Lung Transplantation, and High-Risk and Re-do Cardiac Surgeries, ensuring the best possible outcomes for patients facing these challenging conditions.”
Speaking on the launch, Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman & Managing Director, Medanta, said, “Heart failure represents one of the most pressing challenges in modern medicine. For patients with end-stage or complex heart failure, conventional medical management alone is often not enough. Our Advanced Surgical Heart Failure Clinic is designed to bridge this gap, offering advanced surgical solutions and a chance for a better quality of life.”
The hospital has outlined referral criteria under “I NEED HELP” for clinicians to identify when a patient may require advanced intervention. These include the need for IV inotropes, NYHA class IIIB/IV symptoms, persistently elevated natriuretic peptides, end-organ dysfunction, ejection fraction below 35%, defibrillator shocks, multiple hospitalisations for heart failure, edema despite escalating diuretics, low blood pressure or high heart rate, and intolerance to guideline-directed medical therapy.
The launch of this clinic reinforces Medanta’s continued focus on advancing cardiovascular care through integrated treatment approaches.
