MetaQon Precision Health has announced the India rollout of MetaQon Reproductive Intelligence, a pre-cycle fertility workup designed to flag genetic and biological risk factors that standard first-line IVF testing may not identify.
India conducts an estimated 200,000 to 300,000 IVF cycles a year. IVF is not part of India’s public hospital system in general, while standard health insurance does not mandate fertility coverage. IRDAI requires insurers to disclose exclusions but does not mandate fertility coverage, leaving IVF, IUI and ICSI as standard exclusions unless a couple has a specific rider. Such riders are uncommon and come with caps.
A single IVF cycle at a private clinic commonly costs ₹1.5 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh depending on the city. Most fertility specialists advise budgeting for two to three cycles before reassessing the approach. This can take a couple’s total expenditure beyond ₹5 lakh. Reported per-cycle success rates range from roughly 35 to 45 per cent for women under 35 to below 20 per cent after the age of 38.
According to MetaQon, the issue it is addressing is not a lack of testing, but the possibility that standard pre-cycle panels can appear normal while genetic or biological factors remain unidentified. These include inherited clotting disorders, methylation defects and sperm DNA fragmentation.
MetaQon Reproductive Intelligence uses whole-genome data from both partners against reproductive genes and confirms flagged risks through a targeted blood biomarker panel. It also cross-checks the findings against a structured symptom review. The result is a ranked, clinic-ready order set for the couple’s doctor to act on.
“A genetic report on its own tells a couple they carry a risk. It does not tell the clinician what to do about it before the next cycle,” said Yashpal Jain, Co-Founder and CEO of MetaQon Precision Health. “We built Reproductive Intelligence to close that distance, so a clinic can order the right confirmatory test and have the right conversation with a couple in the same visit, months before a cycle would otherwise fail for a reason nobody checked for.”
The intended audience includes fertility clinics and IVF specialists across India looking for a repeatable way to prioritise pre-cycle workups across their centres, as well as couples undergoing fertility treatment. According to MetaQon, a failed cycle can have financial and emotional implications, with costs often met through savings or EMI.
MetaQon said the workup is intended to identify risks before a cycle rather than after a failed cycle. It cited thrombophilia and methylation variants as examples of factors that may remain unidentified despite a normal semen analysis and first-line hormone panel.
MetaQon Reproductive Intelligence is available to fertility clinics in India. The underlying whole-genome analysis is processed through CLIA-certified and CAP-accredited laboratory partners.
