The Healthy Indian Project (THIP), a health literacy and misinformation-focused platform, has received a Direct Insurance Broker (Life & General) licence from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI). This approval allows THIP to distribute insurance products directly through its digital platform and community networks.
With this development, THIP will begin distributing health and term life insurance products in collaboration with major insurance providers. The initiative is part of THIP’s broader mission to integrate health protection within its information ecosystem and address existing gaps in public understanding of insurance.
THIP has built condition-specific communities and expert-reviewed educational content aimed at guiding users through various health-related challenges. By adding insurance services to this framework, the organisation seeks to clarify an often misunderstood space characterised by technical language and low public awareness.
Ankita Srivastava, General Manager – Strategy and Growth at THIP, said, “This broking license marks a strategic milestone in THIP’s evolution. We’ve spent years building deeply engaged, health-focused communities across India, and now we have an opportunity to serve them more holistically. Our mission has always been to empower people to make informed health decisions. Health insurance is a critical part of that journey. By integrating curated insurance offerings with our educational tools and community insights, we aim to demystify health insurance and make it not just accessible—but truly understood. This expansion will also add a robust revenue stream to our business, allowing us to grow sustainably while staying rooted in our commitment to public health.”
THIP plans to launch contextual insurance products tailored to user needs, based on their health content engagement and community interactions. These offerings may include condition-specific riders such as chronic illness coverage and maternal health plans. Each product will be introduced alongside educational resources to support better comprehension.
This strategy is consistent with THIP’s goal to become a comprehensive health empowerment platform. The company currently offers verified health information, expert-led content, and community-based support systems.
Founded in 2019 by Sudipta Sengupta, THIP is a bootstrapped venture focused on improving health literacy through digital tools and specialised communities. With the broking licence, THIP now enters the insurance segment as part of its continued focus on increasing healthcare awareness and access in India.
